SEPTEMBER SOCIAL CLUB on It Lasts Forever and Then It's Over by Anne de Marcken | Thursday 10 September from 7.15pm

Each month we run a social club - a chance to meet and make friends while enjoying an evening of drinks, cake, and book chat. We pick the book and, whether you love it, hate it, or something in-between, there's always loads of great conversation and a lot of laughs!

For September we're reading It Lasts Forever and Then It's Over by Anne de Marcken, published by Fitzcarraldo Editions - one of our favourite presses for experimental, ambitious, imaginative, and innovative writing. Spare and haunting, sharp and funny, It Lasts Forever and Then It's Over is a completely original take on the zombie apocalypse in which the undead are very much alive in the afterlife, hanging around in a hotel, trying to remember their names. Genevieve might not remember her name, or much of what connects her to humanity, but she does remember - with an implacable and nearly unbearable longing - the place where she knew herself and was know, where she loved and was loved.

Traveling across the landscapes of time and of space, heading always west, and carrying a dead but laconically opinionated crow in her chest, our undead narrator encounters and loses parts of her body and her self in one terrifying, hilarious, and heart-breaking situation after another.
