Join us to celebrate friendship, sisterhood, and some of the greatest love stories EVER told with our first PALentine’s Day event with book chat, painting workshop, and goody bag full of lovely, lovely stuff!! Come along with your pals and gals or come on your own – either way, be ready to make new friends and to have a great, bookish time.

In excited anticipation of the new Wuthering Heights movie, we’re going max Brontë! We’ll be chatting all about The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne – an incredible story of betrayal and redemption, debauchery and abuse, fierce love and passion – while painting individual bookmarks inspired by the Yorkshire landscape that was key to the writing of all three Brontë sisters. Print designer, and co-founder of April 11, Bethany Malyan-Fisher will guide you through her creative process, sharing tips on colour and design, to help you design and complete your own custom bookmark to take home; a template and all the tools you need will be provided.

Your ticket includes the book club chat and painting workshop, facilitated by our great gal pals at April 11, as well as a goody bag including a “lucky dip” gift edition of another one of the Brontë sisters’ novels, a vintage book-inspired journal, a ceramic decoration celebrating love and friendship by Ceramics by Kat, and box of two heart-shaped chocolates from Wallace Green Truffles.

Our café-bar will be open all evening for drinks and sweet treats plus there’ll be plenty of time to enjoy some lovely book browsing and buying!

Tickets: £50 per person OR £56.50 with a copy of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (Vintage Classics Brontës edition; RRP £8.99) to pick up from the shop and read ahead

April 11 is a new shop, studio and community space that champions the work of new and established makers from across the North of England and Scotland. Co-founders Bethany and Miranda first met after moving back to the North East from London, connecting over their shared background in fashion and design, and a mutual love for the rich heritage of arts and crafts in the North.

Ceramics by Kat was founded by Katharine Tyrell-Lewis. Based in Yorkshire, Kat creates beautiful functional stoneware pottery that’s all about bringing joy to everyday rituals. Whilst studying Fine Art and Art History at Newcastle University, Kat discovered pottery as a hobby - her passion quickly grew, leading her to not only sell her distinctive ceramic pieces but also teach wheel throwing. Inspired by the countryside and infused with colour, each piece is totally unique and handmade with care.

Wallace Green Truffles began in 2024 for Bishop Auckland based founder Laura Elbourne. After 12 years working as a pastry chef in professional kitchens, she decided it was time to put her heart into creating something that was truly her own and launched Wallace Green Truffles. For her it is all about creativity, confidence, and sharing something special - every chocolate is handmade in small batches using fresh, carefully chosen ingredients - focusing on flavour, texture and making each piece as beautiful as it tastes.
