BOOK CLUB & SOCIAL CLUB - monthly; get in touch to book your space

Each month we run a book club, bringing authors, writers, and translators along to join the discussion. We also have a monthly social club - a place for you to come, alone or with friends, and chat about some of our (and your!) favourite books and drink some wine (or beer or coffee or softs or tea!) and create a wonderful social reading community.

To secure a place at our next book club or social club, and to get copies of next month's reads, please pop into the shop, message on Instagram, or email us at hello@collectedbooks.co.uk

Money to Burn by Asta Olivia Nordenhof
with translator Caroline Waight
Wednesday 23 April, 6.30pm

We are massively looking forward to our April book club when we will be joined by translator Caroline Waight to talk all about her work on a new masterpiece of Danish literature - Money to Burn by Asta Olivia Nordenhof.

Maggie and Kurt are struggling to hold their marriage together after their only daughter has left home. They live in an old farmhouse in Nyborg but somehow keep missing each other, unable to discuss the events that brought them together.

Decades ago, a passenger ferry called the Scandinavian Star caught fire, killing 159 people. The event is still considered a national tragedy in Denmark and Norway. Years later, it was revealed not to be an accident, but the result of an insurance scam gone wrong. How is the Scandinavian Star disaster connected to Maggie and Kurt? How does money affect and infect our closest relationships? And is it ever possible to escape?

There will be the usual opportunity for your thoughts and questions, too, so be sure to pick up a copy of the book and read ahead of time! Copies are available in the shop now.

Call in or send us a message to book your place and reserve a copy.
