BOOK CLUB & SOCIAL CLUB - monthly; get in touch to book your space

Each month we run a book club, bringing authors, writers, and translators along to join the discussion. We also have a monthly social club - a place for you to come, alone or with friends, and chat about some of our (and your!) favourite books and drink some wine (or beer or coffee or softs or tea!) and create a wonderful social reading community.

To secure a place at our next book club or social club, and to get copies of next month's reads, please pop into the shop, message on Instagram, or email us at hello@collectedbooks.co.uk

JULY BOOK CLUB - Wednesday 9 July, 6.30pm
The Cautious Traveller's Guide to the Wastelands
with Sarah Brooks

The Cautious Traveller's Guide to the Wastelands was one of Frankie's favourite reads of 2024 so we are properly excited to have author Sarah Brooks coming to chat about the book with us for our July book club. Frankie says... "A surprising eco-conscious dystopia, full of fantastic characters bundled onto one of the most frightening trains I've ever read about. This isn't your average train mystery, however, as there's something else out there that's as much of a threat as the people inside the train. Intricate, clever and disgustingly Uncanny, this book was just a pleasure to read."

Set at the end of the nineteenth century, with a curious cast of characters on board the Great Trans-Siberian Express: an impenetrable train built to carry cargo across continents, but which now transports anyone who dares. As the train makes the journey across the Wastelands - a terrain of terrible miracles that lies between Beijing and Moscow - secrets and stories begin to unravel, and the passengers and crew must survive their journey together, even as something uncontrollable seems to be breaking in...

JULY SOCIAL CLUB - Parable of the Sower, Octavia E. Butler
Thursday 24 July, 7-9pm
FREE but get in touch to get your name on the list...

If there is one thing scarier than a dystopian novel about the future, it’s one written in the past that has already begun to come true... Gloria Steinem

A brilliant and endlessly rich modern classic, set in the dystopian future of 2024 America, Parable of the Sower follows a young woman with extraordinary powers through a violent time of chaos where only the rich and powerful are safe. Often less read than the likes of 1984 and The Handmaid’s Tale this is a gripping must-read that we can't wait to discuss!
Send us an email or Instagram message to get your name on the list AND to reserve a copy of the book to read ahead...
